Despite the challenges of the economic recession, the organisers for the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics have unveiled a new sponsor in form of Russian financial services company Sherbank.

Sberbank will finance the Gornaya Karusel venue, which will be home to the Russian National Ski Jumping Centre and Sub-Media Village for both the Olympics and Paralympics, as well as helping contractors finance the building of other venues and infrastructure for the Games.

The deal will also see Sberbank open new retail services in Sochi, provide training for thousands of bank staff and volunteers, provide bank accounts and salary programmes for companies building Olympics venues, and be a distribution partner for the Olympic lottery project.

Dmitry Chernyshenko, Sochi 2014 president and chief executive, said, ‘Sberbank’s agreement to open special credit lines for contractors developing Olympic venues will be a major benefit to those organisations in today’s difficult global economy and another example of the guaranteed delivery of Sochi 2014.’
