In a history-making deal, the first Tier One partnerships for the 2014 Olympic Winter Games have been signed with telecoms companies Rostelecom and MegaFon.
The two contracts have resulted in the largest domestic sponsorship agreement in Olympic history, combining a total worth of $260m. In addition, the new 2014 partners are expected to invest about $200m in the development of the infrastructure of the Krasnodar region, making their total contribution to Sochi 2014 just under $500m.
Sochi’s Organising Committee reported the signing of sponsors at such an early stage of preparations will help to develop the Black Sea coastal region’s telecommunications infrastructure and deliver an innovative and technologically advanced Winter Games.
The Organising Committee is also in discussions with a number of leading companies for the open Tier One spots: Oil, Gas, Metallurgy and Apparel.
The Worldwide Olympic Partners already signed up for Sochi 2014 are Coca-Cola, Panasonic and Samsung.
