Blockchain-based fan engagement platform Socios.com has been confirmed as an Official Category Partner to the BT Sport Industry Awards.
The deal will see the tokenised voting platform for sports fans become the Category Partner for the BTSIA’s Fan or Community Engagement Award.
The move is in keeping with the platform’s vision to increase fan engagement for sports teams through the use of blockchain technology.
Additionally, the BT Sport Industry Awards are committed to utilising the blockchain-voting technology that Socios.com has developed for special award categories at the 2020 event.
The BT Sport Industry Awards this year takes place on Thursday 25th April 2019 and is the largest commercial sports awards in the world, welcoming 1,700 guests to the event in London.
The evening sees BTSIA celebrate the very best work from across the sector, bringing together sports stars, celebrities, senior decision makers, influencers and global media.
Fuelled by the chiliZ digital currency $CHZ, Socios.com was launched in 2018 and saw its owner, Malta-based sports and fintech specialist Mediarex, commit $20m to the world’s first fan voting platform for sports fans.
Fans are able to purchase branded Fan Tokens for their favourite football clubs, and in exchange, receive access to voting rights, taking part in club-specific polls and votes.
Token holders also receive team-specific and platform-wide rewards and can buy and sell Fan Tokens on the app’s marketplace.
In its opening year, Socios.com announced landmark partnerships with French Ligue 1 Champions Paris Saint Germain and Italian Serie A Champions Juventus and will launch Fan Tokens for both clubs this year.
The platform also plans to announce further teams prior to the platform launch in Q2 2019.
Commenting on the agreement with the BTSIA, Emma Diskin, CMCO of Socios.com, said: “The BT Sport Industry Awards sits at the heart of the commercial sports industry, and as such, is a fantastic opportunity for us to communicate our vision for Socios.com to the wider sports community.
“By introducing blockchain voting to the awards in 2020, we can further educate and encourage the proliferation of the technology to a broad audience.”
Alex Coulson, Managing Director of Sport Industry Group, added: “We exist to support the sport industry and are constantly looking at ways deliver the best possible experience for the sector.
“The BT Sport Industry Awards are for the industry and by the industry and so we make sure the industry voice is heard.
“For 2020, we are excited to see how we can include Socios.com’s blockchain voting technology on selected award categories which will be a perfect complement to our existing Industry Selects and main Judging Day phases.”
