Sport Magazine Names New Editor

Sport has announced Tony Hodson as the publication’s new editor replacing Simon Caney who was made the magazine’s publisher in July.

Hodson joined Sport as sub-editor on the title’s launch in 2006 and became Deputy Editor in 2009.

Simon Caney said: ‘Tony’s been with the mag since we launched and he knows it inside out. He’s been deputy editor since we moved to UTV in 2009, and he’s well respected both by the team and the sport industry at large. Sport was the first free magazine in the market and has always led the way, and I have every confidence in Tony to continue to drive Sport forward.’

Tony Hodson, said of his new position: ‘As a pioneering title in the free magazine sector, Sport has always been a groundbreaking and exciting publication to work on – and it is a huge privilege to be made editor ahead of what promises to be an exhilarating year of sport.’

Hodson added: ‘I look forward to working with the magazine’s hugely talented editorial team to continue producing the high-quality content for which we have become known over the past seven years, and I am relishing the opportunity to work alongside a strong commercial team to deliver UTV the best possible results, both in 2014 and beyond.’

Owned by UTV Media and with a weekly print circulation of over 300,000, Sport is the country’s largest sport magazine and the second largest men’s magazine.
