The free weekly magazine Sport will re-launch this week, on Friday 12th June, under the direction of new owners UTV Media plc.

UTV, which incorporates radio, television and new media brands within its network including talkSPORT, picked up the title following the collapse of its previous French parent company, Sport Media & Strategie.

The cover and main feature of Sport’s first edition back features a UK exclusive with F1 World Championship leader Jenson Button.

The magazine will continue to be distributed by hand at London’s tube and mainline rail stations and at gyms and offices throughout the country.

Although under new management, the editorial team will continue to be led by editor Simon Caney, who has been retained by UTV. Caney will report to new managing director Adam Bullock, who is also currently sales director at UTV Radio’s talkSPORT.

Sport initially launched in September 2006 and quickly established a distribution audience of 317,000 readers per week.

Sport’s sales team has also been retained and will work alongside the talkSPORT sales and promotions team in developing increased opportunities for cross-media promotion for advertisers and sponsors.
