The Sport Industry Group is delighted to announce that Sported, the UK charity working to deliver a lasting legacy from London 2012 by transforming the lives of disadvantaged young people through sport, will be the Official Charity Partner of the BT Sport Industry Awards, which will once again bring together the entire industry on Thursday 8th May 2014.
Sported is a free membership organisation that provides funding and business support to thousands of grassroots community groups across the UK that deliver Sport for Development. By helping grassroots groups to grow and become more sustainable, Sported allows its members to concentrate on what they do best – improving the lives of disadvantaged young people through sport.
In its role as Official Charity, money raised from the BT Sport Industry Awards raffle will go to Sported to help support these remarkable projects on the ground. Prizes for the raffle will include a once-in-a-lifetime trip to New York to watch the New York Knicks or Brooklyn Nets courtesy of the NBA; money-can’t-buy experiences at Old Trafford thanks to Manchester United; Club Wembley Gold tickets at the FA Cup Final; and other incredible prizes from across the world of sport.
Chris Grant, chief executive of Sported, commented: ‘Our work aims to continue the phenomenal legacy of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games. In supporting the inspirational volunteers who are devoted to transforming young lives through sport, we’re tapping into the same spirit, passion and commitment so brilliantly exhibited by London 2012’s torchbearers and Games Makers. Partnering with the BT Sport Industry Awards, an event sitting right at the heart of UK sport, offers a unique platform to celebrate the amazing work of our members and highlight the importance of Sport for Development in the UK.’
Nick Keller, Chairman of the Sport Industry Group, added: ‘We are delighted to announce Sported as the Official Charity of the BT Sport Industry Awards. Their work in improving the lives of disadvantaged young people through sport has had a dramatic effect on so many people since London 2012 and it is exciting for the industry that delivered that event to help contribute to that legacy.’
The partnership is not the only charitable aspect of the event, which will also see money donated to the Special Olympics by Paddy Power, the Official Betting Partner.
The BT Sport Industry Awards ceremony – to be held at Battersea Evolution in London on Thursday 8th May – will once again be a sell-out event, bringing together 1,750 key influential figures from across the world of sport. The Judging Process for the BT Sport Industry Awards involves the contribution of more than 50 industry professionals across more than 60 hours, with the entire process overseen at all times by Deloitte, the Official Independent Scrutineers of the BT Sport Industry Awards.
A handful of tables are still available for the BT Sport Industry Awards 2014, now less than one month away, and can be booked here.
