Sport data and integrity specialist Sportradar has appointed former MP & Silva European sponsorship director Hampus Lofkvist to a new global sponsorship role.
It follows the demise of MP & Silva, the once-powerful sports marketing and media rights firm, which was wound up at the High Court in London last month.
In contrast, Sportradar is thriving on the rapid growth of the global sports betting industry, to which it is a leading supplier of data and integrity services.
In September, the firm was announced as part of a landmark three-way venture to bring in-play betting sponsorship to Formula 1 for the first time.
Lofkvist’s new role will focus on creating opportunities in the betting industry for Sportradar clients, and monetising their sponsorship rights.
He will also bring experience from UEFA, where he previously worked within the sponsorship rights management team.
Commenting on his appointment, Lofkvist said: “I’m very happy to have joined Sportradar at a particularly exciting time for the industry. As part of Sportradar´s move into the advertising and sponsorship business, I look forward to working with our extensive global client list to develop new and engaging partnership opportunities across multiple sports.”
Dominik Beier, Sportradar global head of advertising & sponsorship, added: “Sportradar´s key asset is highly talented people. With Hampus joining our newly developed advertising team, where we support our sports betting operating clients with advertising solutions, we are very sure to have gained another great talent for our company.
“His industry experience perfectly matches the support we want to give sports betting operators when it comes to sponsorships, a core communication tool for them.”
News of the appointment comes in a busy week for Sportradar, which has also announced a new deal with the European Volleyball Confederation to launch a new, eurovolley.tv OTT service.
