Sports that are missing out on competing in London 2012 now have the chance to fight for inclusion in 2016.

Seven sports are making their case to be added to the 2016 Summer Games schedule to the International Olympic Committee.

Of  the seven sports: baseball, roller sports, softball, golf, karate, squash and rugby (seven-a-side), only two will be chosen to fill the remaining spots, as The IOC has set a limit of 28 sports in 2016.

Each sport has a one-hour slot, which the programme commission, chaired by Italian Franco Carraro, will then consider and make the final decision in October next year.

Baseball and softball, previously Olympic sports, were voted off the 2012 schedule in Singapore three years ago. The other five failed to gather enough support for inclusion in London.

Baseball was reportedly voted off after failing to deliver major league players in previous Olympics. To win reinstatement, the sport’s leaders must show the IOC these players will show in 2016. Softball – a women’s sport in the Olympics – is battling to return to the Games after missing out by a single vote in 2005.
