Sportsworld, one of the official ticketing partners selling London 2012 Olympic Games tickets to European customers, has stopped taking orders following an influx of requests, after a newspaper revealed the site to British readers.

UK-based Sportsworld is handling London 2012 ticket sales in Denmark but was forced to shut down the site after it became inundated by British consumers after the website became known in the UK following an article in The Sunday Times.

Under EU law all European citizens are entitled to apply for these tickets, however London 2012 organisers have warned fans that buying tickets from foreign websites to be ‘extremely cautious’ about touts.

The huge amount of extra traffic that hit the website on Monday resulted in the site being frozen, with anyone trying to book tickets via the Sportsworld website on Monday received a message saying: ‘Please Note: We are currently reviewing existing ticket orders and as a result there are no London 2012 Olympic Games tickets available until further notice’.

Meanwhile in the UK sports fans are still waiting to hear whether they have been allocated tickets in the controversial ballot system.
