talkSPORT 2, part of the Wireless Group GB’s portfolio of brands, launched at 10am on Tuesday morning with two new live rights deals.

The new 24-hour sports radio station, which launched live from The Cheltenham Festival, has secured live rights to broadcast the ICC World Twenty20 in India and the ATP World Tour.

After reaching an agreement to broadcast the ICC World Twenty20 in India, talkSPORT 2 will become the only national commercial radio station in the UK to be able to bring coverage to sports fans of what is undoubtedly one of the greatest sporting events of the year.

Straight after the station’s 10am launch, it will carry full, uninterrupted commentary of the opening Super 10 group stage tie between India and New Zealand in Nagpur. The following day, England begin their campaign against the West Indies in Mumbai in another fixture to be broadcast live on talkSPORT 2, as the station brings listeners every match of the Super 10s, as well as both semi-finals and the final in Kolkata on Sunday 3rd April.

talkSPORT 2 has also become an official broadcaster of the top tier events on the ATP World Tour. The station will broadcast matches from all nine Masters 1000 events and the Barclays ATP World Tour Finals.

talkSPORT 2’s tennis coverage will start with live commentary from the BNP Paribas Open at Indian Wells Tennis Gardens in California, featuring stars such as Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic and Andy Murray.

Mike Bovill, managing editor, talkSPORT 2, said: “There is a huge appetite for sport in this country, and the array of live rights that we’ve secured for talkSPORT 2 is a great prospect for listeners, who just have to retune their digital radios to pick up the new station. To have the biggest cricket event of the year as well as unprecedented access to names such as Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and of course Andy Murray through the ATP World Tour is incredibly exciting.”

talkSPORT 2 has already announced broadcast rights to Aviva Premiership Rugby and First Utility Super League.
