The players that will represent Team GB in the country’s first Olympic football team for over 50 years have been announced – and will be formed of 13 English players and five from Wales.

The squad for the women’s Team GB football team was announced last week.

Manchester United veteran Ryan Giggs, Liverpool winger Craig Bellamy and Manchester City defender Micah Richards are the three overage players in the side.

Team GB will play Senegal, UAE and Uruguay in their group games as they compete in the competition for the first time since 1960.

The team will play a friendly against Brazil in Middlesbrough on 20th July and their opening Olympic fixture is against Senegal at Old Trafford on 26th July.

Meanwhile, Thomas Cook, the official short break provider for the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games, has issued a reminder to fans that ticket and hotel Games Breaks to see the football action are still available.

Stephen Vaughan, managing director of Thomas Cook’s London 2012 partnership, said: ‘There’s been a lot of interest in watching Team GB at Wembley, and with the 18 being named today by Stuart Pearce, we’re sure we’ll see even more. It’s fantastic for the likes of Ryan Giggs and Craig Bellamy to play in a major international tournament for the first time, but such is the expectation for Team GB to win gold, many fans are now banking on a seat at the final.’

‘We’ve still got a number of Wembley tickets for Team GB on sale as part of our Games Breaks across our stores – it really is time to secure your seat at this once-in-a-lifetime event and hopefully celebrate the team’s success.’
