The cities hosting the next five UK School Games have now been finalised with Bristol and Bath jointly staging the 2008 event.
The multi-sport event for school athletes enjoyed a highly successful debut last year in Glasgow with Coventry having already been handed the 2007 UK School Games.
Organisers Youth Sport Trust and its partnering agency on the Games, Fast Track, have now named the next four venues taking the government-funded Games up to the 2012 Olympics in London.
Bristol and Bath will jointly stage the 2008 Games with Wales (2009), Tyne & Wear (2010) and Sheffield (2011) completing the line-up.
This year’s event taking place in Coventry from 23th to 26th August is expected to feature around 1,300 athletes from a range of schools across the country.
The aim of the UK School Games is to create a legacy of top-level athletes to help Great Britain achieve its goal of fourth place in the medal table at London 2012.
For this year’s event, three new sports – badminton, judo and volleyball – have been added to the list of five sports of athletics, fencing, gymnastics, swimming and table tennis which were featured in 2006.
Disability events in athletics, table tennis and swimming will also be included.
