The United States Olympic Committee has confirmed that it is considering making a bid for the 2024 Olympic Games, with over 10 American cities currently under review.

Scott Blackmun, chief executive of USOC, stated this week that the organisation hopes to shortlist two or three cities by the end of the year before making a bid in 2014.

Blackmun commented: ‘We are having discussions with a number of cities, a little more than ten right now, with a goal of getting down to two or three by the end of the year and a goal of making a decision whether or not we’re going to bid for 2024 by the end of 2014 so that we can take nine months to prepare our hopefully strong bid if that’s what we decide to do.’

Officials in Los Angeles, which hosted the Games in 1932 and 1984, have reportedly expressed an interest in staging the event again. Boston, Dallas, Philadelphia and San Francisco are also reportedly being considered.
