Barring last-minute hitches, WCRS looks to have picked up the £75m advertising
account for Sky after WPP-owned agency Grey was taken off the shortlist.

The removal of Grey from consideration leaves WCRS as the sole agency still
in contract negotiations with Sky about the account.

Sky’s wide portfolio of sports content is a major factor in its marketing
strategy and is sure to feature prominently in the broadcaster’s next
advertising campaign.

The Sky account went out to pitch in October after the relationship with
existing agency partner United London broke down.

Sky approached WCRS directly to pitch for the account while Grey’s
involvement was the direct result of the intervention of WPP owner Sir Martin
Sorrell in an attempt to keep the Sky business within the agency network which
also owns United London.

Sky currently has 8.2 million subscribers in the UK and is placing a heavy
focus on bolstering those signed up to its broadband package. The broadcaster
recently bought a £1bn stake in ITV amid much controversy as it looked to head
off potential competition from the newly combined entity of NTL, Telewest and
Virgin.
